Marj

Marjoram ("Marj") is a 4 year old Australian Shepard. She's playful, loving, adventurous and sweet. She loves to go on long walks, spend time with you and hang out in a fenced in backyard. Marj will hunt any bunnies or rodents in your backyard because she has a strong prey instinct. She's great on car rides. Although she lives somewhere with a big backyard, she also lived in Brooklyn for a month -- she did great going to Prospect Park every day and going on walks and she loved sitting outside of cafes and coffee shops!

What are your pet's favorite toys and activities?: She loves her octopus stuffie, but she's not really big on toys. She loves bones and treats. But Marj is happiest going on lots of walks, and hanging out in the backyard.
Has your dog received any formal obedience training?: No
What commands does your dog know?: Sit - though she follows directions really well -- she might know more, but I haven't practiced with her since my ex left.
Has your dog ever displayed any behavioral issues, such as biting another person or pet? If so, can you please provide details on what happened?: She gets into fights with my other dog, Louise. She has also lunged at other dogs who might come near me when we are in my house or someone elses house together-- but she's fine at my mom's house with my mom's dog Alfred, and does great at doggy day care and in the dog park. She also dislikes the only cat she ever met -- but in fairness, he's quite cranky and old.
How does your dog react to being left alone for short periods?: She's good - sometimes she goes into such deep sleeps when i come home i have to be like MARJ and then she wakes up and comes over!
Are there any specific triggers that cause your dog anxiety or stress?: probably me.... I used to get nervous when other dogs would approach because of how she would get into fights at home -- but she seems fine without me around.
Is there a particular routine that works best for your dog in terms of feeding, walking, and sleep?: Going out in the morning right away, then feeding, then daycare then feeding. She goes out whenever she wants because the backyard is fenced in - and sometimes in nice weather, she likes to hang out outside alot. But she also was totally fine in Brooklyn when I scheduled walks -- she adjusts to routine really well. She'll also just go to the door and let you konw when she needs to go out, she's really so easy.

Vaccinations up to date
Spayed or Neutered
House/Litter-Trained
Microchipped
Special Diet
Special Needs

Does your pet have any history of health issues or medical conditions that potential adopters should be aware of?: I say she is special needs because she had two hip surgeries when she was younger. She's all healed up now. But she also had 2 seizures in the past. I am having her tested for hte MDR1 gene - she hasn't had a seizure since being taken off of tick meds (which is what might cause the seizures if she has MDR1 - or it could be unrelated...).

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: She's really fucking cute, and she's so sweet. Marj will listen to you and follow your direction completely.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: Marj has never gotten to be someone's soulmate. I feel like she deserves to be with someone who is completely devoted to her - spending time together and going on walks. Marj really really loves the outdoors and should either have a fenced in backyard or an owner who really wants to be outside a lot.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: She's the best and deserves to be the center of attention of the family or owner -- I think she would be best with either being the only babe in the house, or being with a male dog.
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?: Incompatible with Other Pets
Rehoming reason details (if necessary): Marj and Louise just can't get along forever. THey get along for a couple of months and then get into insane fights. Louise won't stop going at Marj and Louise ends up being injured bc shes 40 pounds less. Marj can instigate too -- but Louise jsut won't give it up once a fight starts. I can't leave them alone together.
How long will you be able to keep your pet before you may need to consider surrendering him or her to a rescue?: Not an option, my pet will stay with me for as long as it takes
Who is your veterinarian?: North Fork Animal Hospital - i have her medical records if you need
What do you feed your pet?: purina one - a mix of dry and wet
Do you have pet insurance for your pet? : No
