Scoot

Scoot is a sweet boy, whom we’ve had for almost two years. He loves to cuddle, play, go exploring through the woods and running through streams. He is good with children, but does not like small dogs, cats or any small animals (squirrels etc). He is very strong despite only weighing 53lbs. We didn’t get much information on him when we adopted , except dog selective and came from a family with a lot of children. He is high energy and would do best in a large fenced in area , or a secluded large space. He currently gets walked about 2-3 miles per day and still has energy to spare! He is eager to please.

Has your dog ever displayed any behavioral issues, such as biting another person or pet? If so, can you please provide details on what happened?: Yes, he has bit 4 small dogs. First instance was in a park, the leash slipped and he took off, attacking a small dog, no serious injuries. The second instance was with a senior wiener dog, he jumped up to see him (someone was holding the small dog) and his paws hit the small dogs body, causing internal bleeding. The third incident was contractors working at our house, they brought their Yorkie with them, we warned them that if he got out it would not be good. They continued to bring the dog and taunt him by walking him in front of the front door and windows where he would be, he managed to get out of the garage door , somehow it wasn’t shut properly and he attacked that dog. Again, no serious injuries. Lastly, my father had him at the park, a son and father walked by with their small dog and my dad did not have his choke collar on, he was handling him by his scruff. Once the people passed, my dad let scoot down and he broke off his collar , ran after the small dog and attacked it, once again no serious injuries.

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: How loving he is , especially to our 17 month old.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: He needs someone who has the space for him, the time, and the energy for his continued training. He is a smart dog, and has responded well to training, but has that prey instinct mixed with that energy he needs to burn. He must be in a loving home.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: I think he may have been abused prior to us adopting him, he has just acted strange around odd things in the past. He runs from weird objects. He is a loving pet, but he also is independent. After he cuddles, he’ll often go look out the window or take a nap in his own space (my bed).
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?: Personal Problems
Rehoming reason details (if necessary): In addition to us fearing that he will hurt a little dog in the neighborhood, we don’t have the space he truly deserves. Additionally, my mother has just become ill and has started chemotherapy, we have a long road ahead, that involves me being at appointments with her and taking care of her. We have a 17 month old, both work full time and I am in school full time as well.
How long will you be able to keep your pet before you may need to consider surrendering him or her to a rescue?: Not an option, my pet will stay with me for as long as it takes
Who is your veterinarian?: Meadowlands Vet
What do you feed your pet?: Diamond lamb & rice
Do you have pet insurance for your pet? : No
Would you consider a long distance adoption?:
Yes
