He has several plush toys he loves to play with and loves a peanut butter stuffed kong. He likes to play hide and seek: we hide and yell "come find me!" so he can have the fun of sniffing us out. He loves to rip paper or cardboard--but only when given.

What commands does your dog know?: Sit, Down, Shake, High Five, Come Find Me, Kennel
Has your dog ever displayed any behavioral issues, such as biting another person or pet? If so, can you please provide details on what happened?: Yes, Steinbeck has generalized anxiety disorder and stress/fear induced aggression. He has some moments of reactivity where he can lunge and snap/bite, particularly when triggered due to being awoken unexpectedly from a deep sleep or feeling encroached on/threatened in his safe space (namely, his kennel). He has a bite history from some of these types of events; on one of these occasions, he shallowly broke the skin (no medical care was necessary). Because of this, he is muzzle trained. He would benefit from a home with owners who are familiar with dog behavior and body language to mitigate these moments.
How does your dog react to being left alone for short periods?: Steinbeck does well being left alone for short periods of time when put up in his kennel. He sits or lays down with a treat in his kennel and is content while alone in the house. He loves to snooze!
Are there any specific triggers that cause your dog anxiety or stress?: Steinbeck can be triggered by being awoken from a deep sleep unexpectedly and can exhibit some resource guarding if he feels his food or high value toy will be taken away. He is very nervous around young children and can be wary of strangers.
Is there a particular routine that works best for your dog in terms of feeding, walking, and sleep?: Steinbeck is very flexible in terms of a wake up time in the morning depending on the routine of the other members of the home. He enjoys breakfast and a walk in the morning as well as dinner and a walk in the evening. He has historically been kenneled for sleep at night.

Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: While he does struggle from some reactivity, his nature is incredibly sweet and endearing with people he knows and loves. He has no history of destroying any household items or possessions, and doesn't steal food/dig in the trash.
