Kaya

Kaya is a 9-year old female brown tabby. She is incredibly sweet and cuddly and takes well to both adults and children. Kaya's name means "resting place" in Japanese, and it is a fitting name for her peaceful and gentle nature. Kaya would make a great emotional support animal.

What is the most adorable thing about your cat?: She has always loved my daughter. She used to snuggle with my belly when I was pregnant, she would roll on the floor with her during tummy time, and now she sleeps next to her and will play with her.

Does your pet have any history of health issues or medical conditions that potential adopters should be aware of?: Kaya is overweight. She would benefit from having more room to exercise than what I can offer. I recently had to take her to the vet due to bloody urine and she had sludge her in bladder, which was successfully treated. I recommend using Pretty Litter to keep an eye on her health. I also have been trying to limit her food intake; I only feed her 1/5th of a cup of food 2x/day.

What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: Kaya needs a stable, permanent, happy, and loving home. She also should probably be the only pet in the house.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: Kaya has always been an indoor cat, so she should never be allowed outside. Her shots are up-to-date right now, but they will come due again in August 2024. She needs a top-entry litter box as she has a tendency to pee over the edge of regular rectangular shaped litter boxes (if you try to put a lid over it she will pee out of the door). Kaya will always tell you when she wants to be fed and makes sure you don't forget. She will also try to trick you into feeding her a second helping! She meows when asking for food and it sounds like she is saying "Mama?" I am super sad that I have to rehome her but I am looking forward to the happiness and stability that my marriage is going to bring to myself and my daughter.
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?: Allergies in Family
Rehoming reason details (if necessary): My soon-to-be mother-in-law will be living in the same home with me, my new husband, and my daughter when I marry him and move into his house in June of 2024. He already has a geriatric cat who probably won't get along with Kaya or my other cat, his mother is allergic to cats so we can't add any other cats to the home, and the house is a rental and we can't risk my cats clawing up the carpet (they have been known to do this in the past when I lived in other apartments with carpets, if they don't have a good scratch post available to them they will claw carpets and furniture). My fiancé's cat does not claw carpets or furniture at all.
How long will you be able to keep your pet before you may need to consider surrendering him or her to a rescue?: Three months
Who is your veterinarian?: Mesa Vet Clinic, Pueblo, CO
What do you feed your pet?: Hill's Science Diet C/D Dry Cat Food, Oceanfish flavor
