Bowser

Bowser is an energetic, people loving dog who loves to play and cuddle on the couch. He understands most commands such as sit, stay, go, drop it, leave it, go get it (fetch), back up, and no. He recalls well and enjoys playing outside, but dislikes the rain. He is intelligent and learns very quickly. He is a strong dog for his size and will pull on a lead that isn’t a slip collar, head halter, or strong front clip harness. As a pit he is dog aggressive, but I have had him with an older female pit in the home for a long time. He has never bitten, growled, or snapped at a person before and loves people and children. However, due to his strength and excitability I would not suggest homes with very young children (under ~6 years old) as he might knock them over by accident while playing. Makes a great watch dog as he is very observant and vigilantly watches over the house and will alert when someone or something approaches. He will guard the home well, but as he isn’t aggressive toward people, probably isn’t a very good protector against intruders. He loves particularly loves women and will attach himself to them very quickly. He is slightly afraid of large men and while friendly, will lick their hands in appeasement and hide behind his owner if they try to hold him or bend over him to pet him until he knows them better. He is house trained, has his vaccinations, and is neutered.

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: He is definitely a Velcro dog and while he loves playing outside, would rather follow you around and be involved in what you’re doing than play alone. He loves to curl up next to you and watch tv and just genuinely loves people.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: I would like the adoptive family to have space for him to play and if not I’d like them to be able to take him on at least 3 walks a day. No dogs, no cats, and preferably no very young children because he may knock them over during play by accident.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: He is very intelligent and understands many words that aren’t commands. To the point where we’ve had to change the word for “walk” at least 5 times to stop getting him too excited. Living with Bowser is like living with a toddler, he absorbs information very well and always surprises us with how well he understands what we’re saying. While he loves all people, he absolutely adores women and is a fantastic companion to them. He is slightly skittish around large men and might lick their hands to appease them or hide behind his owner if they try to pet him until he gets to know them.
