Penny

Penny is a wonderful, smart and playful border collie mix. We adopted her from a rescue in Houston in 2019 and believe she is 4-5 years old. She loves to run and chase with other pups and snuggle with her humans at night. During the pandemic, Penny began exhibiting stranger danger and defensive behaviors (resource guarding). However, we have done extensive training with Penny over the years, which has helped diffuse resource guarding. Though she is still weary of strangers in the home, Penny is responsive to training and repeat introductions, and she is very treat motivated. Once you are in her circle, you have a friend for life.

Though we have loved having Penny as part of our family, she needs a family that can devote more time to her needs and training. We have two small children and need to have childcare help in our home, which is difficult with Penny's situation and has led to our painful decision to rehome her. While Penny may have reservations meeting strangers or guests in the home, she warms up to others in neutral settings like doggie daycare and boarding. We have had a lot of success taking Penny to both over the years, where she has made many friends with other dogs and staff members.

We believe Penny will do best with a family that can devote the time to continue her training and offer her the space to play and relax away from guests. Though she has lived in a home with children for three years, we strongly recommend Penny going to a home without kids.

Penny is a sweet girl, who has been and continues to be a wonderful companion. Once you build her trust, she will love you forever. She is up to date on all vaccinations and is in good health. Help us find our girl her forever home.
