Young Heeler mix
I am looking to rehome a dog I rescued from a bad situation. I agreed to keep him with the condition that he do okay with my cat. He has become increasingly prey-driven, chases my cat, and due to career changes my boyfriend and I no longer have the time to accommodate his high energy needs. I cannot return him to where he came from, I am looking for a loving home for him with someone active and experienced owning pets. He is great for baths and nail trims, used to having his teeth brushed, house trained, knows basic commands and has improved with leash manners. He is shy in public, doesn’t always know what to do when people approach, but he is getting better with it. Very sweet with people coming into our apartment. I will give new adopter his bed, bowls, toys, crate, collars, leash, muzzle, embark results, all of his belongings.

What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?:
I want someone who is experienced and will keep up with his training and exercise to adopt him. Time is one reason we are rehoming him, so I would love for his new family to be able to better accommodate his energy needs. Training is a great outlet for him
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?:
Roach is wary with strangers, does very well if you sit on a couch and throw his toys for him and then he is your best friend
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?:
Incompatible with Other Pets
Details about rehoming reason (if needed):
Roach is prey driven toward my cat to the point that I will never trust him around him. He stops chasing when commanded, but I have seen too many accidents involving dogs and cats and the thought terrifies me. Best suited to a cat-free household. I would be wary of small dogs as well. He waits until I’m not watching him to chase and I cannot have an eye on him constantly. He has had to be confined a lot of the time because of it and I know he is bored.
