Needs special home
Mini Golden Retriever-ish mix in need of a new home
Meet Alfie, a 2.5 year old dude who weighs in at 25-30lbs. He is loved dearly by my mother but unfortunately needs a new home.
He is a hard dog and needs a special person with the time and knowledge to work with him.
Alfie should not be in the care of an elderly person, and should not be with children.
The bad:
Alfie bit my mother which is the primary reason he needs a new home. She is elderly and on blood thinners, so this does more damage to her than it would someone else. We don’t have the knowledge or the resources to make sure it never happens again. He lives alone with her (and her parrots).
Alfie is a very barky and anxious dog, and anxiety seems to be the root of his vocalization. Treatment for anxiety may help tremendously.
He is a jumper, pulls on a leash, and is pretty stubborn.
When I have dog sat him at my house he didn’t sleep through the night. He only recently started having this issue at his own house, but my mom reports putting him in his crate for bedtime is working.
The good:
Alfie is sweet and happy. He loves toys, play, and adventures. He enjoys affection and wants to be near his person. Alfie rides well in a car, and does well being handled for grooming and nail trims. He does alright in the crate, and is food motivated so that is a helpful tool. He LOVES other dogs, and plays very well. He could fit in with just about any type of dog personality and would probably do best in a house with other canine companions.
The neutral:
He is up to date on shots, and takes Nexgard Plus monthly to prevent heart worm, flea, and tick.
He is neutered
He is shy at first with strangers
He has never met a cat so we don’t know how he is with them
Back story:
He was adopted from a rescue by my mother about 1.5 years ago. They said he was from an unexpected litter, and the owners tried to keep all 7 puppies for a year but it became too much. He probably didn’t get much one-on-one human training during that year.
We want to make sure Alfie finds a match with a person who can work with him around these behaviors so that he does not end up in this situation again. He deserves this so he can be the best dog he can be.
