Bluetick Coonhound
“Weller” is around 2 years old, neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He has high food drive, low toy drive, and I’ve not tested him with prey but if I had to guess he’d be medium-high prey drive if it was worked on! He’s an independent boy and doesn’t mind if he’s getting loved on or not. He doesn’t have any obvious anxiety. He’s crate trained (noisy of course, he is a hound ). He’s had some basic obedience put on him by me but would definitely need a tune up as he isn’t really required to “work” here!
Weller can be a loving boy, but he can also be dangerous. Weller has had 3 incidents with other dogs (all dogs involved were small/medium). In all 3 incidents, Weller grabbed their necks and latched on- he had to be choked off all 3 times. None of the 3 dogs provoked him in any way, Weller was definitely the aggressor in all 3 situations and would have definitely killed them if we hadn’t intervened. I can have him with my large dogs, but I have chosen to eliminate him socializing with any other dogs including my own to prevent what he could do. There’s another catch with him… he is very reserved and even reactive to outside people. I am 95% sure he would bite a stranger for almost no reason other than the want to. I think he does deserve the chance with the right home/family before behavioral euthanasia is considered, but I am on a time limit for rehoming him. Life has taken a bit of a turn for me and I am unable to house a bite risk any longer. I just do not have the proper set up for management of him, and I’ve always said when you have a management case it’s not if but when management will fail. It would be a miracle but he needs a home with someone very knowledgeable about managing this type of dog. I’m desperate to give him a chance.
