Ruby

Ruby is a 3 year old Goldendoodle, looking for a loving home where she can be the only child, human or dog. She loves people, is calm in the house, and is a really easy and sweet companion to have around.

Pet's Name: Ruby
Primary Breed (if not in list): Goldendoodle
Birthdate, estimate is okay: 01/23/2021

Gender: Female
Size (at full grown): Medium
Weight (in pounds) at full-grown size.: 55
Primary Color: Red/Golden/Orange
What are your pet's favorite toys and activities?: Ruby loves playing with stuffed animal toys, lounging in the yard, going for walks, or chewing her Himalyan Yak Chews in the evening. When we are cooking you will find her taking a nap in the middle of the kitchen.
Has your dog received any formal obedience training?: Yes
What commands does your dog know?: Sit, stay, come, down, off, touch (nose to fist), shake (paw handshake)
Has your dog ever exhibited any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, could you please share some details about the situation?: Ruby bit her human sister when her sister thought she wanted a belly rub but Ruby was resting which is the reason for rehoming. Ruby showed signs of aggression since she was a puppy - growling when resting and people came too close, resource guarding, and there were a few nips during her adolescent phase. We worked with a behaviorist and a trainer, and Ruby calmed down a lot and we learned how to manage her behaviors. When she was young she always reacted more to my youngest daughter and then this summer was when Ruby bit her.
How does your dog react to being left alone for short periods?: She is great when home alone.
Are there any specific triggers that cause your dog anxiety or stress?: Leave her alone when resting/sleeping - she rarely growls at us anymore, but if you walk over to pet her when she's relaxing she probably will growl (though she very well may jump on the couch to snuggle next to you!). 2-Resource Guarding -occasionally Ruby steals silly things (a tissue, a sock..) and she will growl if you try to take it, but will happily trade it for a treat or food. 3- Health/hygiene - Ruby may growl if she has sore spot (ie paw pad infection) but just needs some space and treats (ironically she loves going to the Vet because she loves all the attention!).
Is there a particular routine that works best for your dog in terms of feeding, walking, and sleep?: Currently she is fed 2x/day, goes on 1-2 walks most days (or just plays in the yard), and she sleeps in the living room by herself.

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: Everyone who meets Ruby says she is such a love. She adores people, and loves getting attention from new people. When her grandparents come to visit you will see her whole body wiggling with excitement, and then she will be snuggling with her head on their lap. She is silly, sweet, and a really easy dog to have around the house most of the time.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: I want adopters who are full of love and are also experienced with dogs, and completely comfortable with her behavioral history.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: Please know that most of the time Ruby is a wonderful, easy, cute, loving dog. We want to make sure the adopters can handle her challenging behaviors if they come up, but know that on a day to day basis, we do not see these behaviors - they are rare occurrences. We love her so much and we hope you will too.
