Sweet coonhound/pit mix needs a new home!
Penny is a wonderful, high spirited, 5 year old Coonhound / Pit Mix in need of a new home. She loves to go on walks, cuddle up on the couch, play tug of war, and sniff all the smells. She is a fun and quirky dog that will make you laugh with her silly antics and funny faces. Once you're Penny's person she’ll always be by your side (and likely staring at you). She’s also very food motivated, and would do anything for a treat!
Penny would do best in a single pet home with no children.
Unfortunately, our family had to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome Penny as we can no longer provide the environment she needs to thrive in. She is dog aggressive, has some anxiety issues, and is nervous around children.
We recently welcomed home a newborn, and while in the hospital there was an incident with Penny and another dog that occurred in our dog sitter’s home that made us reconsider if our family could give Penny what she needs to live a long, happy, healthy life. If you are able, Penny would make a loving and fun member of your household.

Sit, down, spin, stay (sorta), place (sorta). She knows "come", but I think she thinks it means "come back inside"

Has never bitten a person, but has issues with other dogs: has bitten a dog due to food guarding (small bite, drew blood but let go immediately). A second incident had no clear trigger; Penny attacked a dog she's known all her life. Bit this dog's neck and did not let go for an extended period of time.
How does your dog react to being left alone for short periods?:
A little anxiety but mostly ok. If she's in her crate she's totally fine
Are there any specific triggers that cause your dog anxiety or stress?:
Food guarding is a big trigger. She also acts jumpy around children. The presence of other dogs in general can cause her anxiety as well. Storms also spook her and that's been getting worse over time, but fireworks are fine. The vet is also scary (we've had to drug her at our vet's recommendation).
Is there a particular routine that works best for your dog in terms of feeding, walking, and sleep?:
I would only say walks once per day to keep her from getting cooped up, otherwise she's pretty flexible

Shy: A bit nervous around cats but not aggressive.
What's the most endearing thing about your dog?:
Very goofy; she loves to play and has very exaggerated movements when doing so. She has very good/sweet eye contact, and will always be next to you. She loves doing the "dog hug" headbutt thing too. She gets incredibly excited when she knows a walk and/or dinner is coming.

She doesn't like hugs or for people to touch her belly too much, but she can't get enough butt pats and back and head rubs
