Reko

I'm looking for somebody willing to rehome my dog either permanently or for 4-5 months if necessary. I am unfortunately on the verge of homelessness and will have to live with distant family and cannot bring him with me.
He cannot be around other pets and small children (he is reactive to other dogs and doesn’t know his size when it comes to small kids.) He's 5 and will be 6 on 12/18. Neutered, vaccinated, and house broken. 90 pounds.
He's very loving, loves to cuddle, and all around a great dog. But because of the previous owners abuse he is reactive to other dogs. He needs an active lifestyle even though he loves to be a couch potato and lay around.
I just need to know he's going to the right home. Shelters are not an option. Even the "no kill" shelters are putting animals down. And him being reactive, they would definitely put him down and I cannot stomach that. Please help my baby have a better chance and loving home

Age Category: Adult
Where did you get your pet?: Adoptapet.com
Adoption Day, when did you adopt your pet? An estimate is okay.: 3/2/21
Gender: Male
Size (at full grown): Large
Weight (in pounds) at full-grown size.: 90

What are your pet's favorite toys and activities?: Large rope toy (loves tug of war), oversized tennis balls, and kong balls. He loves walks and nature hikes. Cuddling is his top sport
Has your dog received any formal obedience training?: No
What commands does your dog know?: Sit, lay, down, come
Has your dog ever exhibited any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, could you please share some details about the situation?: When first introduced to my dad’s dog, him and the dog immediately fought. It didn’t help they are both reactive but they were biting. He’s never bit a person and won’t even close his mouth if I put my hand in.
How does your dog react to being left alone for short periods?: He’s fine. He’ll either cuddle on his blanket or go to his crate to sleep
Are there any specific triggers that cause your dog anxiety or stress?: At first separation anxiety. Going to the vet also causes stress and he takes meds before we go to ease it
Is there a particular routine that works best for your dog in terms of feeding, walking, and sleep?: Feeding- it is believed his previous owners abuse and other dogs caused food anxiety. He won’t really eat unless I’m home. However, I can fill his bowl and he eats as he gets hungry. He won’t chow down and devour the bowl every time it’s filled. I walk him twice a day, one morning and then evening. We also have a yard and he goes out there scattered through the day as well.
Medical History and Care:
Vaccinations up to date
Spayed or Neutered
House/Litter-Trained
Microchipped
Special Diet
Special Needs
Never Vetted
Unknown
Does your pet have any history of health issues or medical conditions that potential adopters should be aware of?: He does have allergies. His skin was horrible when I first adopted so I got an allergy test done at the vet to narrow down triggers. He eats dry food that does NOT have ANY traces of chicken, beef, lamb, or duck. It contains salmon and pea. His skin is fine now. He is very very allergic to dustmites
How often does your dog require grooming (e.g., bathing, brushing, trimming)? : If you walk regularly, the nails shave down by themselves mostly and will only get cut every few months or at vet visits. I groom him at home due to reactivity to other animals. He typically gets a bath once or twice a month but I try to do biweekly.
Does your dog have any dental care routines (e.g., brushing, chews, professional cleanings)? : I do try to use a tooth brush and struggle with it. He chews oravet dental chews and loves them

How is your dog with cats?: Not sure: Haven't had enough interaction to determine.
What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: I adopted him as an ESA to help with my anxiety and depression and it turns out we saved eachother. He is so loving and just wants to be on or close to you as much as possible. Just the way he looks at me warms my heart.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: NO other pets. NO small children. I would prefer somebody with a yard but as long as you take him on frequent walks it’s okay. I need to know he won’t just be dumped at a shelter. He needs some patience and love. Preferably somebody with experience with reactive dogs and/or dog training
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: To know him is to love him
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?: Other, Not in List

How long will you be able to keep your pet before you may need to consider surrendering him or her to a rescue?: One month
