UPDATE************Sydney is still with us and we have her under control with daily steroids. She’s like a new dog. Daily walks and swims in the creek and her hair is all grown back!!!
Gentle girl with special health needs. Sydney came to us as a very neglected unkept stray in August 2024. My daughter begged and pleaded to keep her, so we caved. We have been a no pet family for some time and had no plans to get one as we are a busy working family without much time to care for animals. After about a month Sydney began to limp and had a very red and blistered belly. We took her to the vet and thus started the long road to diagnosing her issue. After a hospital stay many many thousands of dollars and an eventual biopsy operation she was diagnosed with an auto immune disease known as Pemphigus foliaceus (PF): Breaks down the mucous membranes of the epidermis, or top layer of skin . She is on a daily high dose of steroids but is otherwise happy and healthy with a great appetite after many months where we thought she wouldn’t make it. The steroids make her very thirsty and this in turn makes her drink and urinate frequently. She is an outside dog and has been in the garage during this cold winter on a heated bed. She wakes me at least 5 to 6 times a night to go to the bathroom! Lol which has been challenging:) I feel that this sweet dog needs someone that will be able to better give her the time and effort she needs. But a full time job for both myself and my husband and 3 teens that realize they were not really wanting to prioritize a dog into their lives. Sydney needs someone who can give her more attention. Maybe someone who is home more and perhaps retired. If this sounds like a fit for you? She’s a sweet and gentle girl that will alert you when there’s something out of the ordinary!
