Frodo and Samwise

Meet Frodo and Samwise, a sweet and inseparable bonded pair of adult Puggles from Germanton, NC, whose journey has been one of resilience, trust, and growing confidence. While Frodo and Samwise's exact age is not known, they are expected to be around six years old. They are looking for a patient and loving home where they can continue to heal and thrive—together!

These two have been through a lot, and while they started out timid and unsure, they are learning to embrace love and kindness. Ear scratches? Absolutely. Butt scratches? Even better! Belly rubs? Well… they’re working up to that. Frodo, the smaller of the two at around 25 pounds, is the more confident one—he adores affection and naturally walks at a heel most of the time. Samwise, weighing about 40 pounds, is a little shyer but is happiest rolling in the grass during his short, leisurely walks.

While they haven’t had formal obedience training, Frodo and Samwise know “come here” and are slowly learning “sit.” Frodo is more naturally inclined to stick by your side, while Samwise starts out with a little enthusiasm on walks before settling into a relaxed pace. They are neutered, making great progress with house-training, and do well when left alone for short periods, but they truly flourish with regular companionship and routine. They are even fully vaccinated!

Because of their past, they are understandably wary of sudden movements, loud noises, or anything that reminds them of the life they left behind. They need a calm, patient home where they can build trust at their own pace. They do well with other dogs and are even cat-friendly, though they tend to be shy at first. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal, as they love having a safe space to explore.

Frodo and Samwise don’t ask for much—just a warm place to rest, gentle hands to pet them, and someone who understands that love, for them, is something they are still learning to believe in. They may take a little time to fully open up, but once they do, their bond with you will be unbreakable.

Could your heart and home be a sanctuary for Frodo and Samwise? If so, reach out to today—these two brave souls are ready to begin their next adventure together!

Has your dog received any formal obedience training?: Not Sure
What commands does your dog know?: They know "come here," and that's about it. We're working on "sit" and Frodo naturally walks in a heel most of the time. Samwise pulls a little (not hard) when you first go out for a walk, but settles into a comfortable gait quickly.
Has your dog ever exhibited any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, could you please share some details about the situation?: We believe they were abused and will bark and growl when startled. Moving slow and calm when they're nervous is very important.
How does your dog react to being left alone for short periods?: He seems to do okay, but we try to make sure he gets plenty of socialization with our other dogs and are starting to get him on regular walks.
Are there any specific triggers that cause your dog anxiety or stress?: Loud noises, raising hands or feet off the ground, or reaching suddenly towards him all make him nervoud.
Is there a particular routine that works best for your dog in terms of feeding, walking, and sleep?: We are working on that. We have to feed our senior rescues 3x a day due to one's health issues, so we're working on getting on that schedule for him, as well as 20-30minutes of walking per day. He usually sleeps okay overnight and loves a soft cushion to sleep on.

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: Frodo is just so dang tiny and cute. Samwise is a shy, chunky boy who loves being outside.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: They are a bonded pair and need to stay together. We do not know how they are with children, but as long as you are calm, slow, and quiet when meeting them they warm up quickly. They do not like being kenneled. That stresses them out.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: They will need lots of love and patience, but they are worth it! We would keep them if we could.
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?: Housing is Inadequate for Pet
Rehoming reason details (if necessary): Like I said, we found them abandoned and are unable to keep them long term. We couldn't just leave them behind, though. They deserve a good home.

Not Applicable
Yes
How long will you be able to keep your pet before you may need to consider surrendering him or her to a rescue?: One month

What do you feed your pet, and does he/she have any feeding quirks or preferences?: We feed them Purina Dog Chow, but they don't love crunchy food. We mix a little water and rice in with it and that helps. They are slow eaters, too, so if you have other pets who have appetites they may need to be fed separately or at a different time.
Do you have pet insurance for your pet? : No
