Meet Maverick, a three-year-old Kangal, Cane Corso, and Great Pyrenees mix from Scranton, PA, whose heart is as big as his 200-pound frame! This gentle giant is a playful, affectionate, and eager-to-please companion who just needs the right family to help him reach his full potential.
Maverick is naturally protective and loyal, traits inherited from his impressive lineage of guardian breeds. While he has never been formally trained for guarding, his instincts are strong, and with the right guidance, he could become an excellent working dog or family protector! He has grown up around children and is both friendly and gentle with them, making him a wonderful companion for a family with experience handling large, strong breeds.
This big teddy bear still has a puppy-like playfulness and loves to run, explore, and chase balls. He enjoys having a purpose, so a home that can provide him with structure, training, and a job—whether as a farm helper, livestock guardian, or well-trained family protector—would be ideal. Maverick is not aggressive, but he doesn’t always realize his own strength, so continued training is key to helping him become the best version of himself.
Maverick is selective with other dogs, getting along with some but not others. He’s neutral toward cats, meaning he doesn’t mind them but doesn’t seek them out. While he’s okay being alone for short periods, he thrives on companionship and would do best in a home where he isn’t left for long stretches. He’s also not a fan of being yelled at, so a patient and understanding guardian will bring out the best in him.
With regular brushing a few times a week, dental chews now and then, and a home that provides him with love, trust, and training, Maverick will continue his journey of becoming an amazing lifelong companion! If you’re ready to open your heart and home to this loyal, devoted, and hardworking boy, he’s ready to commit to you in return.
