Meet Kona, a vibrant four-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd mix from San Diego, CA, whose brindle coat is as unique as his loyal, energetic heart!
Kona is in the prime of his life and has a big personality packed into his medium 40-pound frame. He’s a spirited companion who loves morning walks (preferably in the lead position), thrives on games of chase and tug-of-war, and is happiest when he’s by your side! Treats are the key to his heart—and his training—and he already knows “come,” “sit,” and “stay,” with lots of potential to learn more with consistent, positive reinforcement.
Kona is a loving, loyal pup who truly shines in the right environment. He’s house-trained, microchipped, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. He shares his current home with a cat and older children, and he adores running, playing tag, and just being part of the action. While he can be protective on walks and sometimes reactive on leash, especially around unfamiliar dogs, he’s also had successful stays at places like Alpine Dog Ranch and responds well to familiar routines and calm introductions.
This sensitive guy struggles with long periods of solitude. When left alone all day, Kona gets anxious—he won’t eat while you’re gone, and he’s been known to nibble on door trim or drywall if he's feeling especially lonely. He’s not destructive by nature; he just needs more interaction and stimulation than a full workday apart allows. A home with a fenced yard, frequent walks, companionship throughout the day, or a dog walker would suit him perfectly!
Though Kona hasn’t had formal obedience training, he’s eager to please and would thrive in a structured environment with a confident and loving pet parent. He’s a fast learner, especially when you’ve got a treat or two in hand, and he truly just wants to be a good boy.
