Cali

Cali’s Biography
Meet Cali, a stunning 3-year-old medium Aussiedoodle (about 45 lbs) with brains, beauty, and an independent streak! She’s playful and loves nothing more than a good game of fetch, but she’s not much of a snuggler — Cali’s the kind of dog who enjoys your company without being glued to your side. She’s highly intelligent (her past trainers can vouch for that!) and thrives on mental stimulation and activity. With the right environment, she’s sure to blossom into a loyal, fun-loving companion.

Behavior & Needs
Cali can be reactive, especially when meeting new people — particularly men — and needs carefully managed introductions where strangers ignore her until she feels safe. When introductions are done on her terms, she acclimates well, but rushed or unmanaged encounters can escalate into aggression. She’s had professional training, but due to life upheavals and inconsistency, her progress needs reinforcement. Cali would thrive in a quieter home without a lot of visitors, ideally with another playful dog to help burn off energy. She’s intrigued by cats but hasn’t quite mastered polite feline manners yet. She’s healthy and ready for a home that can offer her the time, stability, and patience she deserves.

Has your dog ever shown any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, please share some context.: Cali can be reactive, particularly around new people — especially men — and needs slow, structured introductions where strangers completely ignore her at first. If introductions aren’t managed properly, she can be unpredictable, and has startled and nipped in the past; once, she did nip a UPS driver who approached unexpectedly. That said, when introductions are on her terms, she can warm up beautifully. She’s had professional training and is incredibly smart, but due to major life transitions and a lack of consistent structure, her reactivity has intensified. She would thrive in a calm, low-traffic home with another friendly dog to play with and room to run. Cali is curious about cats but doesn’t quite know how to interact with them safely just yet. With patience, understanding, and consistency, she has so much potential to shine in the right environment.

What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: Mostly that someone can manage introductions to new people as to not trigger her into nipping or biting
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?: Moving
Details about rehoming reason (if needed): I’m starting over after a breakup and moving back, which has been tough enough with one dog—finding temporary housing with two has been nearly impossible. With all the instability, my second dog has developed anxiety, and constant moving only makes it worse. It’s hard to work on her triggers when she’s in new environments all the time. Because of that, having a roommate temporarily feels too risky—for her wellbeing and mine.
