Meet Rey! She is a 4 year-old, 60-pound, spayed female Treeing-Walker Coonhound mix. She enjoys walks in the neighborhood and longer hikes, playing fetch with her favorite (bacon-scented) ball, searching for treats and other training games, and taking cozy naps. She is house-trained, crate-trained, and she knows a variety of tricks including sit, down, stay, stand, touch, paw, leave it, and side (heel). She is very food-motivated and loves playing training games. Rey is looking for a new home because her anxiety is making it difficult to adjust to the new infant in her current home. Her anxiety usually presents as being defensive around strange people in the home and other dogs who take an interest in her. She can also be protective of her space, food, and toys. While she does have a bite history, none of her bites have been unprovoked, they have not required medical attention, and her body language when she becomes nervous is easy to identify. Her ability to cope with these challenges has improved greatly with consistent medication and training. She is comfortable with a few dog-friends whom she’s known for a number of years, and can become comfortable with new dogs with controlled exposure and training. She would do best in a home with no other pets or children, and with an owner who has experience with anxious dogs.
