Maisie

Maisie: A sweet and loyal companion looking for a devoted human

Maisie is a really sweet dog, but timid and sensitive. She is more comfortable with dogs than people. She is a rescue that was found with her mama in a campground when she was 6 months old. That's when I adopted her and spent a lot of time training her to be the best dog she could be. She is very loyal to one person. She likes to keep me in eye sight. She will hang out on the deck sunbathing while I'm inside doing my thing. She alerts me to any visitors. She is not aggressive with people just vocal until I call her off. She loves to go on walks or hikes in the woods. She's been on a boat but is not much of a swimmer. I've taken her fishing. She's great crossing the creeks as long as she can tip toe on the rocks! She's great in the car, too.

She loves to play/wrestle with other dogs. It would be best to be in a family with another playful dog. She is not in a fenced yard and has access to several acres to wonder around. She stays close to the house when I'm at home.

What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: She needs space to explore, access to the woods or an owner that wants to go on daily hikes. She is a constant companion, so someone that is home a lot would be good. She is happy hanging out outside on the deck while I'm inside. She will come in out of the rain or cold. Otherwise, she loves it outside. No apartment living for this girl. I tried fencing her in on the deck, but she can jump over the 4 foot fence. She would love another dog to play with. She currently has a next door dog to play with a couple times a day they will wrestle.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: This is one timid girl. It takes her a while to warm up to most men. However, there are certain people she bonds with very quickly. My two sisters and one of my nephews. She's fine with kids that don't come on too strong. Be careful when introducing a puppy. Maisie can be aggressive with them. She has not bitten one or growled at it. She just likes to knock them down and nibble on them.
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?: Schedule, No Time
Details about rehoming reason (if needed): Maisie needs someone that can understand how to get her to relax and trust humans more. I don't have the time or energy to spend with her. And I'd like to travel more, as I am now retired. This was supposed to be my adult daughter's dog who lives in an apartment. This is not an apartment dwelling dog! So I took her to my house in rural western north carolina where she is at home running loose on 11 acres with woods.
