Bucky

Age: 4 years
Breed: Mixed
Size: Large

If you're a one-dog kind of person, Bucky might be your soulmate.

This handsome, loyal guy lives for human connection. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and walks well on leash. He LOVES rides in the car (I mean REALLY loves to ride in the car), belly rubs, chasing a ball, and one-on-one companionship. Bucky is incredibly affectionate, smart, and eager to please. Bucky’s idea of a good time? Being wherever you are, preferably snuggled up, with a treat.

He needs one thing: a home without other pets. He prefers the undivided attention of his humans. We have had no issues with kids, and he seems to enjoy being around them. However, as with all dogs, children should be carefully monitored around pets, especially in the beginning.

What You Get:

  • A faithful shadow who will follow you anywhere
  • A dog full of personality who brings life to every room he’s in
  • A sweet, steady companion who’s not here for the drama...just you
  • Bonus: a starter kit (a large crate, bed, leash, toys, and food)

What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: What Bucky truly craves is love, inclusion, and a sense of belonging, but he also requires structure and consistency to thrive. His ideal adopter will have a calm, confident demeanor - someone who can establish trust and respectful leadership through firm but compassionate guidance. He needs someone who is committed, loving, and physically capable of handling a strong, 85 pound dogs, and able to clearly define who the boss is.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: In the right home, Bucky has the potential to be an exceptionally loyal and loving companion. With patience, consistency, and strong leadership, he will thrive. He is a highly intelligent and strong-willed dog who may test boundaries initially. Once those boundaries and roles are clearly defined, Bucky adapts well and settles into a routine. He will do best with an adopter who can offer regular walks, continued training, and dedicated one-on-one attention. Because he is physically strong and may react to other dogs, his new guardian must have the ability and knowledge to manage and redirect that behavior appropriately. Bucky does not seem to do well with “calming” medications like Trazodone. His most concerning behavioral incidents occurred while he was on such medications, and his current progress suggests he does better without them.
