Pet's Name:
Blu (short for Blucifer)
Dog: Primary Breed:
American Pitbull Terrier
Birthdate (an estimate is okay):
Fall 2023
Age Category:
Adult
Where did you get your pet?:
Blu was unfortunately dumped in our neighborhood one night. We found her walking back from the grocery store and, assuming she was lost rather than abandoned, brought her inside. Since trying and failing to locate her previous family, we've been fostering her while we try to place her a good permanent home.
Adoption Day (when did you adopt your pet? An estimate is okay.):
July 2024
Gender:
Female
Size (at full-grown):
Large
Weight (in pounds, at full-grown size):
65
Primary Color:
Brown
What are your pet's favorite toys and activities?:
Fetch (she has a soft frisbee we throw for her), walks, tug-o-war, chewing on yak cheese, runs around the yard, occasionally ripping up her Tearable monster (a toy with heavy duty velcro on the limbs and head so she can pull it apart) or bits of cardboard (what we gave her before we had the monster for her. We call them 'treats' when they're offered to her- we haven't had any real issues with her ripping up cardboard indiscriminately)
Has your dog received any formal obedience training?:
No
What commands does your dog know?:
sit, wait (stay- this is also her heel command on leash), down, up (standing on her hind legs), leave it, go to your place (to send her to her crate), touch (touching her nose to your palm), come, no teeth (she likes to cobb sometimes- this is her command to settle and back off). We're also working on back (backing up while facing whoever gave the command). Her release work for any sustained command like 'wait' is 'okay'.
How does your dog react to being left alone for short periods?:
Blu has generally done quite well being left alone for short periods of time.
Are there any specific triggers that cause your dog anxiety or stress?:
Blu is very stressed out by the cars. We've been working with her to reduce her anxiety, and she's definitely improved, but bear in mind that this will probably remain something that requires patience. She also isn't especially fond of baseball caps.
Is there a daily routine that works well for your dog (feeding, walking, sleep)?:
Blu gets three meals and three half-hour walks a day, in addition to treats, training, and some enrichment toys. I think she could adapt well to a 2-meal schedule if needed, but the walks are really the bare minimum she needs for exercise.
Medical History and Care:
Vaccinations up to date
Spayed or Neutered
House/Litter-Trained
Microchipped
Special Diet
Special Needs
Never Vetted

Does your pet have any history of health issues or medical conditions that potential adopters should be aware of?:
Outside of a very mild ear infection when we found her, Blu has been very healthy dog.
Has your dog ever shown any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, please share some context.:
Blu is still a young dog- she's energetic and can get activated and excitable. This usually results in jumping up on people and cobbing, though we've done a lot of work with her to mitigate these behaviors. She can also be very destructive when under-stimulated. In the time we've had her this has only happened twice, but a couch cushion and a memory foam mattress had sizable holes torn in them as a result.
How often does your dog require grooming (e.g., bathing, brushing, trimming)? :
Like most bullies, Blu has a very short coat. If you're particularly bothered by shedding, you could go over her with a soft bristle brush once a week, but otherwise all she really needs is a monthly nail trim and the occasional bath. I would recommend some sunscreen in the summer :)
Does your dog have a dental care routine (e.g., brushing, chews, professional cleanings)?:
Outside of frequently giving her yak's milk chews, we haven't done a lot with Blu's teeth.

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?:
Blu genuinely one of the sweetest, smartest dogs I've ever met. She is eager to learn, empathetic, and more than anything just wants to be relaxing near you.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?:
We're looking for a home that can give Blu things we can't. She'd thrive somewhere with room to run and play- either in a big yard, or with her new family on regular outings. We'd love for her to have a family that has the time and space to give her the attention she deserves. All she really wants is to spend most of her day relaxing with you. Families with someone that work from home are by no means required, but she'd enjoy it.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?:
Blu is an incredible dog. I hope beyond hope that whoever takes her can give her a home for life, but if for any reason your circumstances change, please don't hesitate to contact us. I just want to make sure she's never somewhere she isn't loved.
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?:
Foster Pet
Details about rehoming reason (if needed):
Blu was never intended as a permanent pet in our home. She's a very good girl, but she won't thrive in a tiny house in the middle of a city with five other animals who aren't suitable as companions for her. She needs a home where she can get all the love, attention, and excitement she deserves.
If applicable, do you have the legal right or necessary permission from the breeder or rescue organization to rehome this pet? :
Not Applicable
Yes
How long will you be able to keep your pet before you may need to consider surrendering him or her to a rescue?:
Not an option, my pet will stay with me for as long as it takes
Who is your veterinarian?:
Dr. Vallard Forsythe
What do you feed your pet, and does he/she have any feeding quirks or preferences?:
Merrick Back County Raw Infused Kibble (beef flavor), Merrick Limited Ingredient Diet Grain-Free wet food, greek yogurt, basically any King Lou toppers. She's a good eater and doesn't have any particular preferences, but we do try to regularly give her puzzle feeders to make mealtime a little more stimulating.
Do you currently have pet insurance?:
No
Would you consider a long-distance adoption?:
Yes
No
Maybe
