Meet Joy - Our Independent Shiba Inu Looking for the Right Home
Joy is a purebred Shiba Inu, born in 2021, who’s been with us since he was a 3-month-old pup. True to his breed, Joy is independent, intelligent, and plays by his own rules. He’s protective of his home and doesn’t warm up to strangers quickly, but once he trusts you, he’s a loyal and fascinating companion.
He’s an alpha male who thrives with structure and someone who understands the Shiba temperament. He doesn’t easily accept authority, but he responds well to mutual respect and consistency.
We’ve loved having Joy in our family, but with four young kids, it’s become clear that he would be happier in a quieter, adult-only home where his needs and space can be respected. Joy would do best with someone experienced with dogs - especially strong-willed breeds - and who values his independence.
If you know and love Shibas, and are looking for a companion with spirit and depth, Joy could be the perfect fit.

Has your dog ever shown any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, please share some context.:
Joy is a reactive dog and very protective of the home. When new guests arrive, he doesn’t accept them easily. He also cannot be trusted with children - we’ve had two biting incidents in our house that, unfortunately, I was not able to prevent in time. I also want to point out these were not major bites - nothing that required hospitalization or an emergency visit. The first incident happened during a playdate when Joy was still under a year old. The girls were playing too loudly and too close to him. He didn’t like that and bit one of the girls. The second incident occurred a few months ago, again involving a child. Another girl approached him too quickly and too closely, and he bit her. Both incidents took place in our home, and I take full responsibility. They could have been easily avoided if I had intervened sooner.
