We rescued Poppy's litter of puppies ahead of Hurricane Francine from a shelter that was going to euthanize them. We fostered all the puppies as they each found their forever home but we fell in love with Poppy. She is sweet, loving, a cuddle bug and amazing with our two young children. We decided we wanted to keep her. Things have been pretty good over the last almost year that we've had her and we adore her.
Unfortunately, our other dog has decided that she no longer wants to share her space. She has been starting fights with Poppy. Though Poppy is rarely the instigator, she is definitely the finisher. She is very strong and breaking up the fights is difficult and not without injury on occasion. We have tried several methods to encourage our other dog not to start a fight and sadly, nothing has worked. Poppy is also not great with our cats and ducks. She very much views them as toys. With extremely heavy hearts, we have come to the conclusion that this environment is not suitable for her.
I know the above information makes Poppy seem less than appealing but its just not true. She has NEVER been aggressive towards people. I put my hand on her face and in her bowl during feedings with no issue. No food aggression. This decision is first and foremost, for Poppy. Poppy deserves to be the center of attention. She craves it and we just don't have the ability.
The perfect home for Poppy is one with no other animals. Someone who is looking to have a lifelong partner in crime. She is the perfect movie snuggle buddy. She needs a fenced yard for sunbathing and zoomies (she's fast!). She's an absolute clown. We adore her and because we adore her, we have to admit that she deserves better than this environment. Our dogs cannot be together so they take turns being out with us or being locked in a bedroom. It's not ideal but the only way to ensure no fights take place.
I have never rehomed an animal in my life. They are our family and this is completely heartbreaking. We want the absolute best for Poppy. So, if you are a person with no pets and a fenced yard that is looking for an AMAZING friend, please consider Poppy. Please be someone who is willing to send us updates and pictures over the months/years.
