Ammo

Our chocolate lab, Ammo, is a big, goofy bundle of love who never fails to make everyone smile. He’s an English-style lab who loves to run, chase, and play until he wears himself out—then bounces right back for another round of fun. He’s happiest when he’s out on a walk, splashing in the water, or chewing on a good bone. Even though he’s a big dog, he doesn’t realize it and thinks he’s a lap puppy, happily jumping up to give kisses or snuggle close.

Ammo is a dominant male and currently does well with his male companion, but they’ve been together since they were just 12 and 8 weeks old. Because of this, he may not do well with another adult male dog, though he would likely adjust to a puppy male and would be just fine with a female companion.

Full of energy, affection, and personality, Ammo is the perfect fit for a family looking for both a playful companion and a loving cuddle buddy. He is also CKC fully registered and intact.

Primary Color: Brown
What are your pet's favorite toys and activities?: He’s a total water dog and would play in it all day if he could! He loves chewing on rope toys and bones, and one of his funniest habits is sitting in the kitchen like a little helper, watching you cook and trying to sneak snacks when he thinks you’re not looking.
Has your dog received any formal obedience training?: No
What commands does your dog know?: He knows his basic commands, including “sit” and “down,” and just needs a little consistency to keep him on track. He’s a smart boy who’s eager to please and picks things up quickly—especially if there’s a treat involved! Like most labs, he’s very trainable and will thrive with a family who enjoys teaching and working with him.
How does your dog react to being left alone for short periods?: He is kennel trained and does great when left alone in his kennel. It’s his little “den” where he feels safe and relaxed, and he’ll happily nap or chew a bone until you’re back. He’s always so excited to see you when you walk through the door!
Are there any specific triggers that cause your dog anxiety or stress?: He’s a very calm and quiet dog overall, with just a couple of normal triggers. High-pitched sounds can sometimes make him bark, and he’ll alert you if the doorbell rings—but he settles quickly once he knows everything is okay. Other than that, he stays relaxed and easygoing, making him a stress-free companion in the home.
Is there a daily routine that works well for your dog (feeding, walking, sleep)?: He does well with a consistent daily routine. He usually wakes up around 6:00 a.m., goes outside to use the bathroom, and then settles back into his kennel around 6:30 a.m. He stays in his kennel until about 3:30 p.m., when he’s let out to relax and spend time with the family. In the evening, he winds down and is ready for bed around 10:00 p.m. He is used to eating 2 cup of food once per day, and this schedule has worked well for him. When he’s not in his kennel, he’s happiest just being near his people. He’s a true shadow dog who thrives on affection, companionship, and love. His routine can be adjusted to fit his new home, as long as he continues to get the closeness and attention that make him feel secure.

Does your pet have any history of health issues or medical conditions that potential adopters should be aware of?: He has always been a very healthy dog! The only thing to keep in mind is that chicken-based foods can sometimes upset his stomach, so he does best on a chicken-free diet. With the right food, he stays happy, healthy, and full of energy.
Additional notes about your dog’s health history:: He’s always been fully vetted and kept up to date on everything, and he’s had a very healthy record his whole life. The only small thing to know is that chicken-based foods can bother his stomach, so he does best on chicken-free food. Other than that, he’s a happy, healthy boy who’s full of love and energy.
Has your dog ever shown any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, please share some context.: He has never bitten anyone. The only things to keep in mind are his excitement and enthusiasm—he may jump up to greet people, and when he gets really excited it helps to give him a ball to hold in his mouth. He also loves to give kisses and can be a little clumsy with all his affection, but it’s always playful and sweet. With a little consistency, these quirks are easy to manage and really just add to his goofy, loving personality, especially for families who enjoy a fun and affectionate dog.
How often does your dog require grooming (e.g., bathing, brushing, trimming)? : He’s pretty low-maintenance when it comes to grooming. A good brushing once or twice a week keeps his coat looking nice, and he enjoys a bath every so often, especially after playing in the water or getting muddy.
Does your dog have a dental care routine (e.g., brushing, chews, professional cleanings)?: He loves his daily Greenie chew—it’s both his favorite treat and a great way to keep his teeth clean and healthy. He’ll happily sit and wait for it every day, since it’s part of his routine. He’s also done well with his regular vet checkups, so his smile is always in great shape. Little routines like this are part of what make him such an easygoing and lovable companion.

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: The most endearing thing about him is how he manages to be both goofy and incredibly loving. He doesn’t realize how big he is and will happily climb into your lap for snuggles, showering you with clumsy kisses and tail wags. Whether he’s making you laugh with his silly zoomies or melting your heart by following you from room to room, he always finds a way to make you feel loved and happy.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: It’s important that his new family can give him plenty of love, patience, and attention. Ammo thrives in a home where he’s treated as part of the family and included in daily life. Because he is a dominant male, he would not do well with another adult male dog, though he could adjust to a puppy male and would do fine with a female companion. His ideal family will be comfortable with an alpha dog and appreciate both his goofy energy and his sweet, cuddly side.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: He is truly our baby, and we love him so much. Letting him go will break our hearts, but we know this is what’s best for him. Ammo is a goofy, affectionate boy who loves the water, chewing on his rope toys and bones, and following you around the house just to be near you. He’s happiest when he’s part of family life—whether that’s joining you on a walk, watching you cook (and sneaking snacks if he can!), or curling up for cuddles at the end of the day. He is kennel trained, fully vetted, CKC registered, and has always been a healthy dog. More than anything, he just wants a family who will love him as much as he will love them
