Obi

Meet Obi – A Social, Sun-Loving Senior Cat

Obi is an 11-year-old tabby who has been with our family since he was a rescued kitten less than a year. He’s up-to-date on his yearly vet visits and vaccinations, and he’s always kept his front claws. He enjoys lounging on the porch in the sunshine, watching the world go by, and even chasing the occasional fly. Obi also coexists peacefully with our dog.

Personality & Habits

Obi is a social cat who thrives on companionship and consistency. If we have the audacity to leave for a day trip somewhere without consulting him he will lash out with a puking or small well placed dropping of poop a single turd where I am likely to see his distaste for my departure.. This behavior developed after we had young children and wasnt a fan of some of their toys being left out of place.

He has a strong personality and, like many cats, enjoys scratching furniture despite our attempts with scratch posts, nail caps, and deterrents. Nothing past our couch does he enjoy for his scratching fun. Carpet and cheaper sofa's are not his taste. A family prepared to provide him with acceptable outlets for scratching, and who can accept this quirk, will find him a loyal and affectionate companion.

Why We’re Rehoming

With three children under the age of five and another baby on the way, we can no longer give Obi the calm, attentive environment he deserves. Recently, his accidents have created health concerns for our infants around their toys. This has been a very difficult decision, but we want Obi to have the best possible life in a home where he feels secure and loved.

Ideal Home for Obi

Someone who doesn’t travel often and enjoys having a cat around for company.

A calmer, child-free home or one with older kids.

A family who understands cats with strong personalities and can be patient with his habits.

A safe space where he can enjoy sunbathing on a porch or lounging in a warm spot indoors or outdoors.

Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?: Baby/Child Safety
Details about rehoming reason (if needed): His consistent behavioral issues which result in all these cat accidents where my childrens health is of concern. He typically with throw up, poop or pee on their toys. He was not like this before children. He has been checked out by our Vet and I have worked with a behavioral cat expert. Despite medication he does not feel comfortable with the new living arrangment of our growing family. We have 3 children and soon to be 4. The constant baby crying, kids toys left out or petting too aggressive makes me sad for him. He is a good loving cat. He is playful and fun. Its just too many accidents around our children who are crawling and all playing on the carpet flooring at all times of day. Its too hard to keep track of the accidents. I have tried a lot. Medication, multiple litter boxes. I have a self feeder and self cleaning litter box that you are welcome to have. He likes it. He just doesnt like to be left alone and doesnt like kids.
