Madeleine

Madeleine is a bright-eyed sweetheart who wins hearts with her good energy level and "smiling" charm. (She may be part Chessie and "smiles" in a way that wins over strangers wherever she goes. She’s wonderfully people-oriented and lights up when someone kind speaks to her. She’s also cat-curious in a polite way and does well with feline friends who appreciate a respectful dog companion.

She has excellent manners and an easygoing routine — she’s crate-trained, house-trained, and walks beautifully on leash. She knows sit, leave it, and even “up” (her reminder to step safely out of the street on walks). She sleeps soundly either in her crate or out of it and is happy to peacefully snooze nearby while you go about your day.

This lovely girl thrives as the only dog in the home. She gets nervous around other dogs, so she’s looking for a calm, predictable environment with no canine roommates — just humans she can bond to and trust.

What makes her truly special is her independent spirit. She doesn't demand constant petting or attention — she’s perfectly content relaxing on her own, enjoying your company quietly rather than being underfoot or in your lap. She’s the ideal companion for someone who appreciates a peaceful, loyal presence and the sweetness of a senior soul.

She comes with her current health insurance, which can be continued by her new family — a wonderful support for her golden-years care. I can provide all over material supports--crate, LL Bean orthopedic beds, collars, food, raincoats--everything to get her started in her new home.

If you're looking for a well-mannered companion who will share your space with kindness, dignity, and her own independent charm, Madeleine will make a loving and graceful addition to your home.

How is your dog with cats?: Friendly: Generally gets along well with cats.
What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: The most endearing thing about Madeleine is the way she quietly shows her love — she doesn’t need to be glued to you to adore you. She’ll rest nearby, check in with gentle eye contact, and wag her tail softly when you talk to her. She’s independent yet deeply connected, and her calm companionship brings so much peace to a home.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: No other dogs around her. It would be very helpful if her new home had its own front door. Apartment living has not been good for her sharing an egress point.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: Madeleine is a well-mannered senior lady who thrives in a calm, predictable home. She’s crate, leash, and house trained, walks beautifully, and knows helpful commands like sit, leave it, and “up” to move safely out of the street. She prefers to be the only dog so she can relax and feel secure, and while she’s polite with cats and adores people, she’s happiest in a peaceful environment with her own humans. She isn’t a constant snuggler — she’s an independent little companion who loves to be near you, quietly napping or watching the world with her amber eyes and wagging tail. With her soft presence, sweet spirit, and easy routine, she’s a comforting friend who brings calm and love just by being there.
