Nelson

Nelson is a sweet 7-year-old pitbull mix (approx. 45 lbs) who’s ready to find his perfect forever home. We adopted him in 2019 when he was about a year old, and he’s been a beloved part of our family ever since. Unfortunately, due to his anxiety and our growing family, we’re looking for a home that better fits his needs.

Nelson’s ideal day involves plenty of naps, lounging on his bed, and enjoying some treats. He’s a calm and affectionate dog when in a comfortable environment and doesn’t require a lot of exercise, just a short walk or some backyard time makes him happy.

He’s very food motivated, crate trained (his crate is his safe haven where he sleeps happily at night), and well trained in basic commands. We’ve also started muzzle training, and he’s made good progress.

Nelson does have anxiety that can make him reactive around small children and unfamiliar people in the home. He has a bite history from a high-arousal training session with a new guest in 2021. His interactions with our toddler have never been negative, but his arousal level during play can be high, and he may jump in excitement, so a child-free home is essential. For the safety and comfort of everyone, he needs thoughtful management around guests until they are part of his trusted inner circle. He currently has several regular dog walkers whom he is very comfortable and relaxed with, showing he can build strong, positive relationships with new people given time and consistency.

Nelson may also be reactive around other animals, so he’s likely best as the only pet; however, he previously did well in a foster home with another dog.

We love Nelson deeply, but for the safety of our young son and for Nelson’s own comfort, we’ve had to keep them completely separated, something that has become increasingly difficult to maintain as our family grows. We want him to have a peaceful home where he can relax and thrive.

If you or someone you know can offer Nelson the calm, predictable, loving, child-free home he deserves, one where his space and boundaries will be respected, please comment or send me a direct message. He has so much love to give and will be a loyal, snuggly companion to the right person.
