Riley

Riley is a 4 year old lovable, sweet, and smart boy. We have had him since he was a puppy - and before we had young kids. We love him more than anything, but it has become apparent that our home (with two toddlers and a baby on the way) is causing too much anxiety for our sweet boy. Riley prefers a quiet and calm environment. While his anxiety has never caused him to be aggressive, it has caused him to be unable to settle for large portions of the day. We believe this is almost hundred percent due to the unpredictability of toddlers and infants. We would love to find him a home with older children or no kids at all. When he has stayed at another home (such as my mom’s or his dog sitters) he is a completely different dog - calm, relaxed, happy. He loves walks and would do well with an active, dog loving family. Riley is such a smart boy and easily trainable. He’s extremely food motivated! He loves his humans and would do anything to be close to them. It breaks our heart to say goodbye, but we know he will be so much happier in a home better suited for his needs.

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: His smart personality. He is SO smart. Very trainable and sometimes seems more human than dog to us. His smarts can also get him in trouble, like when he realizes there isn’t an adult human in the room and he can test his luck and eat food from the little humans plates ;)
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: We want to find him a home where there is predictability in the routine and environment. No small kids. He needs calm and a family who enjoys going on walks.
