Meet Yuli! A smart and affectionate Boxer Mix who is a total "velvet hippo" at heart. Yuli is the ultimate loyal companion; he is an expert snuggler who will gently nudge you for pets, belly rubs, or a game of tug. He has a very sweet and playful personality. He is fully house-trained, crate-trained, and knows all his basic commands like sit, stay, off, and leave it. He has a moderate energy level! As a Boxer mix, he enjoys daily walks and regular games of fetch. But since he's 5 years old, he's happy snoozing the afternoon away once he's had his exercise. He is a perfect house pet who knows the difference between his toys and your furniture. That said, he is a "Super Chewer" who does best with heavy-duty rubber or nylon toys.
Yuli is wonderful with humans! In fact, he has made friends with all of his human neighbors and insists on saying hi during his walks. He would thrive in a home with adults and/or older children (ages 10+) who can handle his occasional uncoordinated zoomies. However, it is important to know that Yuli is not a dog for a first-time owner. He requires a family committed to ongoing reactivity training. While he is extremely gentle and loving at home, he is leash-reactive towards other dogs and will bark at other dogs when he's on leash. He has shown aggression toward off-leash dogs that approach him abruptly while he is on a lead. He needs a confident handler who can work on focus and loose-leash walking in public spaces. Because of his reactivity, Yuli would be happiest as the only pet in a home with a fenced yard where he can play fetch and sniff safely without the stress of passing dogs.
Regarding his health, Yuli is generally very healthy but has a chicken allergy and requires a strict chicken-free diet. He is neutered and microchipped, though he is currently due for a vet visit to get his vaccinations up to date. Yuli has so much love to give and is looking for a leader who can help him feel safe and focused!

Additional notes about your dog’s health history::
He had "happy tail" when we first got him, but it healed and has since not been an issue. But he does have the classic pitbull "whip" tail!
Has your dog ever shown any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, please share some context.:
He has never bitten anyone, but he has shown leash reactivity towards other dogs (not humans). With help focusing (being put in a sit, or following a treat), he can calmly pass a leashed dog. But if he's on leash and is suddenly approached by an off leash dog he will react aggressively and lunge/snap/growl at that dog. He needs help learning that his owner is in control and that he can stay calm in that scenario.
