Pepita is a one year old rescue pup. He is smart and very trainable, but he needs a person who knows how to work with anxious and slightly reactive dogs.
Pepita is a snuggle-bug who LOVES to fetch; He wants to be playing 24/7, you'll never catch him without a ball--or two if he wants to impress you! He is a high energy dog, he loves to be active, to sniff around, swim and play.
On most days, we'll go on walks to the park, working on recall training while we play fetch. I let him off leash somewhat regularly, he just has yet to perfect/master his recall. At a dog park he likes to run, hang out and watch the other dogs, and tends not to get very interactive ( just watches them play with ball in mouth). He's best with dogs and people that are calm, confident and strong.
On leash he does well, though I keep a ball on hand for moments of reactivity (squirrels, or some dogs and people approaching on the same-side sidewalk) I can give him his ball to hold as a reward for a good behavior, and with a ball in mouth, he doesn't have a care in the world. We can walk by these triggers with little to no reaction, it works every time.
Being a rescue, he's a sensitive guy. He's alert and high energy when in stimulating situations, so needs a person that is able to tune into his small cues/tells regarding his comfort level-- and more importantly signs of discomfort. Pepita is house-trained and crate-trained, though starts to feel a bit overstimulated in new settings. He likes to run around and explore, and will test his boundaries when he is in a new indoor space, so training in such instances is important.
He's the sweetest little boy; I love Pepita. I am excited for him to find a fitting new home and step forward into his new life.
