BACKSTORY:
Edmund, a 5 year old male, was found sitting on top of my backyard fence in March 2023. I began feeding him that very day, and eventually he appeared for food 2-3 times a day. In October of 2023, I trapped Edmund and had him neutered and vaccinated. I brought him inside in hopes of socializing him and adopting him to a family, but after 1 month indoors, Edmund decided he preferred the outdoor life. So I returned him to my back yard and continued to feed him. Over the months, he gradually came to trust my family and me. He lived on our back deck and showed signs that he wanted to come inside.
So in October 2025, I trapped him again. I brought him to my vet and had him examined and vaccinated. He had x-rays, blood work, stool sample taken, and tested for every disease the vet was able to test for. It’s amazing that the vet found him to be 100% healthy. The only thing Edmund had was fleas, but we took care of that with monthly flea medicine. I think because Edmund was a loner outside, he didn’t catch intestinal worms or giardia from other cats. The vet calls him a “Golden Tabby.” Edmund’s fur is medium length and extremely soft. On his front chest there is a beautiful patch of pure orange fur. Either mom or dad must have been an orange cat!!
INDOOR LIFE:
After the vet visit, I brought Edmund back inside my house, and this time it was different. Edmund immediately ate in front of me, groomed himself and enjoyed sitting in the window. It took him 4 weeks to allow us to pet him, and another 2 weeks to let us pick him up. It’s now February 2026 and Edmund is ready for his forever family. He has blossomed into a cat who loves the indoor life.
His favorite things are: sitting and sleeping in a lap, lounging between legs, eating a Churru, playing with his toys, being continuously pet and watching whatever it is you’re doing. He’s getting quickly used to being held and even lets me flip him onto his back like a baby.
Since Edmund lived in my yard for 2 ½ years as a loner cat, he would do better being the only cat in the house. He has met my 2 chill male cats, but Edmund doesn’t know how to play gently. When he lived outside he loved sitting up against my screen door, while my cats were on the other side of the screen. But when he met them inside my house, he played rough with them. He does not show any aggression. He doesn’t hiss or growl. He just doesn’t know his own strength and how to be gentle with my house cats.
EDMUND’S FUTURE:
Edmund is ready for his forever home. It will take time for Edmund to adjust to a new family and new surroundings. He is, however, ready. Since December 2025, my family and I have been introducing Edmund to people he has never met before. We want to get him used to new voices, new smells, and new hands. I am very happy to say that Edmund is quickly getting over his fear of new people and just yesterday he met 2 strangers at the same time and did not run and hide. He sat on his scratching post and watched them for a while, and then carefully and slowly walked past them several times. He even let one of my friends pet him gently. Even though I could tell Edmund was nervous, he acted like a brave cat who was quickly learning to trust.
Edmund needs a family who would give him the time and space he needs to trust his new family. He is a sweet, loving and playful and especially beautiful boy who will be your best friend in time.
