Sweets

Our neighbor, a kind, loving 50 year old woman, unexpectedly and suddenly passed away from liver failure last week. She adored her dog, Sweets. He was her entire world. And now he has no one.

Sweets is an 11 year old senior Doberman/Boxer mix with the gentlest soul. Every time someone walks into the house or he gets to go outside, he does a full little happy dance with his paws. He just wants to be near people. He is so joyful and loving despite everything that’s happened.

We are desperately trying to find him a foster or forever home. I am heartbroken to say I cannot keep him, and I am terrified that if he goes to a shelter, because of his age, he'll be subject to euthanasia.

He has a temporary home only until Tuesday, March 3rd. After that, his future is uncertain.

About Sweets:
• 11 years old (senior, but in good shape!)
• Doberman/Boxer mix
• Neutered
• Potty trained (no accidents since being in temp home)
• Knows “sit” and a few other commands
• Extremely gentle and happy
• LOVES squeaky toys
• Not destructive. When left alone, he settles and sleeps
• Did well at the vet. Healthy teeth, overall good condition
• Vet noted a heart murmur, but said for his age he looks good

He hasn’t been around kids or other dogs much in recent years, as his owner rarely left home the past three years. On walks, he has whined and pulled toward other dogs but did not bark or growl — with proper introduction and socialization, he may do just fine around other pets. He likely hasn’t had vaccines in the past three years. Unsure if he’s chipped. He has adapted beautifully in a short time & just wants love.

We are located in Highland Park (near Glendale and Pasadena), California, and are willing to meet within reason anywhere in Southern California to help him find the right home.

Let’s honor his mom’s love for him by giving him the safe, happy ending he deserves.
