Hattie

Hattie is a cuddly playful loyal lab mix who needs an adult only dog household. Hattie showed some early behavioral issues with our older small dog, but they improved after structured training. Three years later, the stress of adding a new human baby has caused her aggression towards our senior dog to resurface. As new parents, we no longer feel equipped with the resources to manage her behavior. I love Hattie, and I’m committed to finding her a more appropriate home where she will flourish.

Additional notes about your dog’s health history:: She didn’t respond well to Trazodone for anxiety. It just didn’t work, but her anxiety from moving into our house was temporary, and it subsided once she adjusted to her new home.
Has your dog ever shown any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, please share some context.: Hattie was very emotionally shut down when I adopted her from the shelter. Initially, I thought she was shy and calm, but she was just very depressed. As her loving and playful personality began to bloom while she settled in our household within the first couple of months, she also developed jealousy and aggression towards our older small terrier mix. This manifested as resource guarding of humans during play, reactivity related to table food, and toys more rarely. Being much larger than our other dog, she is capable of doing significant physical damage to him. We enrolled her in training at home and in a group setting with other dogs on leash. The progress was so significant that those early fights became a distant memory within a year’s time. Our household was peaceful for three years. She has also never shown aggression towards other dogs while on leash in a public setting. I did not allow play with other dogs in public because of her history. Our dogs coexisted sharing food and sleeping in our bed together, but the transition of adding a new human baby has reignited Hattie’s aggression towards our small senior dog. It is unsafe and stressful for everyone involved. Hattie is a vibrant loyal companion, and she will flourish in a home where she is the only dog.
How often does your dog require grooming (e.g., bathing, brushing, trimming)? : She has very short low maintenance fur. She’ll do good to have a bath once every couple of months. She likes the feeling of being brushed, but it’s not required for care.
Does your dog have a dental care routine (e.g., brushing, chews, professional cleanings)?: She’ll chew a dental bone. Just continue to monitor with her vet if she needs a cleaning as she ages.
