He also is reactive to many stimuli. We do not know what happened in the first four months of his life, but clearly some traumatic experiences. He loves his people, but cannot fully relax without medication. He is afraid of human and animal strangers. He suffers when left alone in his crate although the medication does help calm him. When he is scared he goes into flight or fight and is in another zone. He is never aggressive, just beyond himself with anxiety.

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: Humphrey is so loving. He wants to please and tries so hard. He loves training and sniff games and showing how smart he is. He would cuddle on the couch all day if allowed. He will walk by you on his way to his water bowl or to get a toy and give your ankle a lick as he passes. He loves his people constantly leans in for hugs.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: Patience. Humphrey needs people who will love him but also have the stamina to work patiently through his anxiety issues with him. He needs an owner who has worked with anxious and reactive dogs before and knows how to handle the situation when he gets so scared he just barks and barks.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: This is a hard decision for us, but Humphrey deserves more. He needs a family that has the time and patience to work with anxious dogs. Ideally he needs to gain confidence and learn trust. I have health issue which prevent me from giving him the attention he needs.
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?: Personal Problems
Details about rehoming reason (if needed): Humphrey is strong and reacts with pulling on leash, jumping, and barking, when anxious. Due to health issues I cannot control him when he is in fight or flight mode. He not only needs help finding a better way to react to his fear (although the meds take the edge off the day to day anxiety) he also needs an owner who can control him on leash when he reacts with fear.
