Playful Bowie Needs a New Loving Home
We adopted Bowie through a local rescue in May 2021; he was about 3-4 months. Bowie is now 5 1/2 years of age. Bowie is incredibly loyal and loving, and over the last five years, we have shared a beautiful life with Bowie. He's a great traveler and companion. Bowie thrives in a home that is quieter and offers predictability. Over the last few years, Bowie has been startled by a few visitors in our home, and unfortunately, two of those occasions have resulted in biting. My husband and I feel that Bowie would be most successful in a home that does not have children or other pets. Bowie has a lot of love to give and we believe that he could thrive in a quiet home with someone who maintains a low-key lifestyle. He enjoys walks and does not have huge energy needs. Our home environment is about to change as we are welcoming our first child soon. We hope we can find a loving and safe new home for our sweet pup to land.

Bowie enjoys walks, sun bathing, and he has several favorite stuffed animals that he loves to snuggle with.

Bowie does well being left alone for short periods; in five years, we have never had any issues with him acting out while we were away from the home and/or destroying things. He finds somewhere quiet in the home to rest and sleeps.
Are there any specific triggers that cause your dog anxiety or stress?:
An unpredictable home environment; commotion either from multiple people living in the home or parties or a lot of visitors. The bigger energy and activity of young children also appears to be a stress trigger for him.
Is there a daily routine that works well for your dog (feeding, walking, sleep)?:
Bowie is fed twice per day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Bowie has always been a grazer, and therefore, there are days when he may wait to eat his breakfast until later in the day. He does well with regulating his own nutrition needs. He enjoys walking but does not require long walks or walks every day. He would enjoy a short walk every day if possible, but if there's a day when it can't happen, he is happy to just be outside hanging out in the yard or on a deck. Bowie has done well with our schedule; he sleeps some of the day when we are working and he goes to bed when we go to bed. He does well with following the routine of the home life.

Bowie is a healthy dog and we have kept up with his annual wellness exams and vaccinations/boosters. Bowie does seem to have a sensitive stomach, and therefore, we give him Hill's Science Diet sensitive stomach kibble.
Has your dog ever shown any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, please share some context.:
While Bowie enjoys people very much, we have come to learn that Bowie can become tired and overstimulated by visitors in our home. At times, Bowie will show us that he is tired and he will take space in a quieter part of the home, however, he likes to be part of the mix. When startled or taken off guard, Bowie has shown us that he may react by biting. We have now had two biting incidents with him; both occasions involved a younger child that either fell on him accidentally or surprised him while he was resting. When Bowie was a puppy, he played really well with other dogs; however, as he gets older, he presents more as a dog that does not do well with other dogs more often than not. With all of this being said, my husband and I feel that Bowie would thrive in a quieter home that offers predictability and not a lot of commotion/activity; one without children and other pets.

Bowie is an excellent communicator; he has some Husky in his mix which shines through when he wishes to communicate; at times, he will playfully howl at you if he wishes to play or get your attention and it's really sweet.

Bowie has a lot of love to give, and in the right home environment, we feel strongly that he could continue to be a wonderful companion for someone(s) who leads a more low-key and predictable lifestyle.
