Woody is the world's friendliest dog, he's 7.5 and been with us since we rescued him as a puppy. He's 65lb and a total sweetie pie who loves to cuddle, hike (off leash) and go on long walks. He struggles with severe separation anxiety, but otherwise is a manageable dog. He is a people guy, not a dog guy. He is fine on walks, but wouldn't like a dog in his personal space, a dog visitor in his home or the dog park. He's extremely playful, but loves a good lazy day. He's excellent on leash and has strong recall.
We had our first child 9m ago and he has struggled to adapt to the new member of our family, with occasional bouts of aggression towards us that made us concerned for her safety. He has never bit her (or anyone for that matter) and is wonderful with kids, but we think her joining our family has been too difficult a change for him.
Woody would do well with a family who want a warm and loving dog, are active, and ideally work from home or are home more often than out.

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?:
He loves to sit on people, including strangers, as a sign of affection. He is the "mayor" of greenpoint, best friends with the school crossing guard, constantly getting pets and love from passersby on the street + shop owners. He is just the sweetest most loving fellow. Also he will patiently wait by his food and water bowl looking at you if its empty instead of begging, but sometimes he will get impatient and move the bowl with his snout. Because hes a hound dog he can be stubborn and will sometimes pretend not to hear you – HE HEARS! Also when he's happy his tail will SLAP because he is just so excited to have affection or see someone he loves. He will also make chewbacca like sounds out of excitement when he sees any friends of ours that he loves particularly a lot, also out of affection and excitement. He's a lovebug! Anything shaped like a dog bed will be a place woody would think its acceptable to rest - like a bath mat or baby playmat.
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?:
A family who will embrace Woody for all his quirks — his deep love of people, and show patience for his separation anxiety, respect for his preference of people > dogs.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?:
Woody doesn't have severe dog reactivity, but we'd want to adoptive family to know he *can* be reactive. He is exceptional on leash, has fantastic on recall, but just doesn't *love* dogs, and so you shouldn't force it / try to make him someone he is not — he just LOVES people. He rides the subway, goes to bars (indoor and outdoor!), waits on line at CVS patiently for prescriptions with me. He is truly fantastic in public and on leash, we just know that in the case another dog comes into the bar, for example, we monitor him more closely. His separation anxiety is his saddest quality — we have an impact crate for him (which we would gladly pass on to the next family) to help him remain safe inside the crate (he has tried to escape other wire crate), and will shiver before going in. Sometimes he will quietly walk in, sometimes he will bark for a minute or two. He will lick his paws to self-soothe, and so put a muzzle on him to help reduce the licking. We believe that with another family its possible he outgrows this and can be out of the crate, but for now that's how it works best for us. He is smart and tall, so can open doors - hence the crate.
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?:
Baby/Child Safety
Details about rehoming reason (if needed):
Woody has lunged on occasion at our baby, Daphne, and we do not feel we can have them together unsupervised or on the ground which requires too much oversight and is cause for concern given her size.
If applicable, do you have the legal right or necessary permission from the breeder or rescue organization to rehome this pet? :
How long will you be able to keep your pet before you may need to consider surrendering him or her to a rescue?:
Three months
Who is your veterinarian?:
Greenpoint Vet Group
What do you feed your pet, and does he/she have any feeding quirks or preferences?:
He eats Taste Of The Wild twice a day, 2c per feed. he LOVES stella and chewy treats (extremely food motivated, will DEFINITELY listen when these are around!!) Also adores peanut butter, cheese, crackers, meat. Doesn't like veggies or fruits lol
Do you currently have pet insurance?:
