Pickles

Pickles, affectionately known as Picky, is a 7-year-old mixed-breed girl with a big heart and an even bigger love for her people. She is the kind of dog who wants to be wherever you are, happily following you from room to room just to be near you. Her favorite things include snuggling with her people, being a loyal companion, and enjoying a good snack!

Picky is potty-trained, kennel-trained, and understands basic commands. She doesn't need a busy schedule or constant entertainment to be happy. She simply wants a loving person to share her days with, a comfortable place to relax, and a family she can call her own.

Picky's ideal home is a calm, adult-oriented household without small children. She forms deep attachments to her people and can be protective when she perceives someone as a threat. Although she has never engaged in an incident with small children, she has reacted defensively toward adults she perceived as threatening. For this reason, it's important that her future owner understands her protective nature, respects her boundaries, and can provide a stable environment where she feels safe. An experienced, attentive owner who understands canine body language would be ideal.

Picky is also frightened by loud, sudden noises, including severe storms, fireworks, and jet engines. Unfortunately, we live on an active Air Force base, where the sound of aircraft can be difficult for her. We want to give her the opportunity to live somewhere more peaceful, where she doesn't have to experience that ongoing stress.

Rehoming her is not a decision we've made lightly. Picky is a wonderful dog with a loving heart, and she deserves a home where she can feel secure, comfortable, and cherished for the rest of her life.

If you're looking for a loyal companion who will happily keep you company, snuggle beside you, and make herself part of your everyday routine, Pickles may be the girl you've been looking for.

She doesn't need a perfect home. She needs the right home — one filled with patience, understanding, love, and a little room on the couch. ❤️

Note: We have plenty of short clips/videos for anyone interested.

Does your pet have any history of health issues or medical conditions that potential adopters should be aware of?: Pickles injured her back right leg (the equivalent of an ACL injury) about six months ago. Additional notes about your dog’s health history:: Pickles is overweight a good bit. Most of that has to do with a sedentary disposition and her access to another dog's food.
Has your dog ever shown any challenging behaviors, such as biting a person or another pet? If so, please share some context.: Yes, Pickles will defend herself if another dog attempts to mount her or anyone approaches her "family" rapidly. She has also been known to growl at small children, which is why we are in need to rehome our pup.

Does your dog have a dental care routine (e.g., brushing, chews, professional cleanings)?: Rarely receives an actual brushing. Recommend not giving her the "greenie" treats for dental and breath. Her stomach reacts poorly.

Unfortunately, the jet engines has sparked fear into Pickles desire to go outside. She will run out to go potty, but quickly scampers in. She also has shown signs of inconsistent demeaner around our toddler. Thus, she is isolated from time to time. This sweet pup deserves a better life than to be afraid or isolated most of the day..
