Daisy

Daisy is a sweet, pit mix puppy, going on 9 months old. She is fixed, crate-trained, and up to date on her vaccinations. She is a loving, playful girl. She's full of energy - I think jumping is her love language! :) She loves to be with her people, whether it's inside or outside.

Daisy's challenge is that she has trouble getting along with other animals. She's eager to chase cats. She also wants to be the dominant dog in the home and doesn't want to share my attention, so she starts fights, some of which have been serious.

Daisy was abandoned in our neighborhood and found her way into our yard at about 4 months old. As a result, she is pretty fearful of new things and new people. However, she does warm up after getting used to new people and a new environment -- not so much other dogs. She did very well with our dogsitter who takes only one dog at a time and who works from home.

We have tried to keep her and integrate her into our "pack", but with three other dogs (one elderly) and three cats in the home, it's not working out harmoniously.

I love Daisy a lot and I want to find her a home where she can be loved and successful. She's a good girl and deserves a happy life!

How does your dog react to being left alone for short periods?: Daisy is fine if crated or left outside in a fenced yard for short periods with food and water. Because she is both anxious and a puppy, we don't leave her alone inside the house except in her crate.
Are there any specific triggers that cause your dog anxiety or stress?: I'm not sure. It seems to be fear-based and may be also jealousy-based, but I can't tell exactly what causes her to become aggressive with the other dogs in our household. She is fearful of strangers and strange dogs.
Is there a particular routine that works best for your dog in terms of feeding, walking, and sleep?: We have a fenced yard and a dog door. I walk her down the steps to the yard a few times a day when I'm home to encourage her to go pee and poop in the yard and not the deck. :) I feed her Redbarn dry food morning and night. She would likely do well with and enjoy more walks.

What's the most endearing thing about your dog?: There's not just one! Daisy's face and "smile" are adorable. I also love it when she flings her toys around so she can go get them and play some more. So cute!
What criteria are important to you when considering an adoptive family or home for your pet?: I would like Daisy to go to a home with no other pets and no children because I think that will set her up for success and a forever family.
Is there anything else you'd like your pet's new family to know?: Daisy is young and I think could learn to interact more positively with other dogs if her new owner has the time to work with her and a behaviorist. Because of the number of pets we already have and my work schedule, I'm not able to do it myself much as I wish I could.
Why are you rehoming your pet (primary reason)?: Incompatible with Other Pets
Rehoming reason details (if necessary): Daisy has caused some fights with one of our other dogs (one who is normally amiable and gentle). Although Daisy started the fights, she's the one who was the most seriously injured in the conflict. I want her to be somewhere she can safely enjoy and be enjoyed.
